Paper feed assembly (input assembly) for an HP Laserjet 4, 4+, or
5. These three printer models share many common parts including
the input assembly which is very similar in the laserjet 4, 4 plus,
and 5. The purpose of these two images is to give you an idea of
the level of detail we go to when refurbishing a printer.
The clutch bearing gear circled in the first image is connected
to the paper feed tire in the second image. This gear (and paper
feed tire) should only spin in one direction. When a printer gets
dirty the clutch bearing begins to slip and the gear spins in both
directions. This gear never had any lubrication from the factory!
That's why this gear slips on almost every printer that hasn't been
properly cleaned and lubricated. When properly lubricated this gear
will last for many years without ever needing service. In this case
the assembly will actually perform better than new!
