HP Laserjet 4, 4 Plus, and 5 Transfer Roller Installation

** Note: The maintenance kit installation procedures are identical for the laserjet 4, 4M, 4 Plus, 4M Plus, 5, 5M, 5N. **

Turn the printer off and unplug the printer.

Open the top cover and remove the toner cartridge. Use a small flat-head screwdriver to pry up the left side of the transfer roller (yellow circle below). Pull the right side of the transfer roller out of the right slot and discard the used roller. Install the new roller in the reverse fashion. Be careful not to touch the black spongy rubber. Skin oils can degrade print quality.
